This image features Hall of Famers Johnny Bench and Joe Morgan. Johnny may be the model against which all future catchers are judged. A star behind the plate and with a bat, he first made his mark as the National League Rookie of the Year in 1968 before becoming a key component of Cincinnati’s “Big Red Machine” teams during the 1970’s. Before his 17-year career was over, Bench would win 10 Gold Gloves, two NL MVPs, and belt 389 home runs. Morgan joined the “Big Red Machine” in 1971. From this point on his career reached a new level. This includes eight consecutive All-Star Game appearances (1972-1979) and 5 Gold Gloves.
